Bloggers Unite ~ Blogging for Hope

"While the words might change from country to country and are sometimes taken for granted, human rights represent one of the universally agreed upon ideas — that all people are born with basic rights and freedoms that include life, liberty, and justice. This year marks the 60Th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations.

Bloggers Unite For Human Rights challenges bloggers everywhere to help elevate human rights by drawing attention to the challenges and successes of human rights issues on May 15. What those topics may include — the wrongful imprisonment of journalists covering assemblies, governments that ignore the plight of citizens, and censorship of the Internet. What is important is that on one day, thousands of bloggers unite and share their unified support of human rights everywhere."

~ Taken from http://unite.blogcatalog.com/

I am writing a blog about human rights because though the cries of prisoners in China cannot be heard from my window, my heart is unrested. I feel deeply saddened and ill at ease when I think of the innocent who have been slaughtered so far from the safety of my home. I look at not the statistics but a person who has hopes, dreams, aspirations and a life with value. Their value was not seen by their captors. Their life extinguished as an cigarette; snuffed out after its last inhale by a murderer.

Shi Tao is a journalist was captured and is serving a 10 year sentence for sending an email. Let your government representatives know that we need the Chinese government to release Shi Tao.

Yahoo! provided information to the Chinese government which led to Shi Tao's imprisonment. Yahoo! needs to know that the public is loud and clear in protest because of privacy violation. Lets take a stand and not tolerate injustice to our people. In my heart, there are no borders, a woman in China is in my village, I reach out my hand to her and she takes it. I sleep at night knowing I've taken care of my own.

My boyfriend's band The Emotional Junkies is holding a concert with a few local bands to coincide with the Olympics in China and the cruelty that is taking place with Tibetans. I know that every positive motion that we make turns into ripples and goodness resounds. This blog will be read by some who will carry forth the message and the ripple will be felt a little further.
